Free For All at White Pond Reservation!!!
Easy and free to park; off 117 in Sudbury with a sign to point the way. Free admission; stay all day! Drink alcohol, in the water if you like. Throw your containers in when you're done. You won't get caught. Litter, there's no trash service. Go to the bathroom in the woods, or the pond, because there isn't one. Hide in the trees to change your clothes, do drugs, and have sex. Don't worry about crushing plants and eroding the steep banks, there is nothing to stop you. Drag boats down. And up. Ride your bike down, around and wherever. Bring your dogs. Put up rope swings, play Tarzan and Jane. Fish, nobody will check to see if you payed for a license. Pull the trees and branches down if they're in your way. You won't have to pay any damages. Besides, the water level rose so you can just clear a new beach. Call people on your cell phone and invite them down to join you-especially if you ran out of alcohol and drugs. Yell, swear, threaten people. Come back at night and light fireworks off over the water, plus everything you do during daylight. There are a multitude of trails to escape on if anyone ever bothers to call the police. Besides, they would call the Concord police and you can escape back to Sudbury. Take the rocks from the shoreline and throw them out into the water. Do whatever you like, it's free. Anarchy in the woods by a nice swimming pond. Cool off on someone else's buck. Sunday, June 8, at 3:00 PM there were 74 people visible in the water and on the shores of the Reservation Land. This number does not include people around the bend in the Cove or people in the trees. |

It sounds disgusting ... please call the police when this happens as often as you can stand. We all need to stand up for the pond and show the Concord police we care... perhaps it's even appropriate to call the state police; the water in the pond is state property...
So disheartening... |

Hi Julie;
Fact is that any beautiful warm sunny day is just like this. Often times the police are called with a no show subsequently. We must face facts, they are too busy & all regard the 'laws' governing White pond as somewhat of a joke, largely unenforceable. Yesterday (from within a canoe) - we observed the following: 2 rope swings in Sachems cove (aka 'dog cove') with kids trashing the woods for it's use. approx. 45 people in & around the cove @ 4:PM. 8 dogs (eight) 1 'habachi' cooking grille on the beach @ Stoneroot side with large flames 1 simple log fire @ the deforested point on Sachem's cove (aka 'dog cove') Folks, these are facts that increase in intensity evey year & as the weather gets warmer with scofflaw patrons accessing both reservation & conservation regions form parking lots off rte. 117. Won't it be just a joy if gawd forbid, this 'bfrt' conduit to more people & more ill defined lack of 'enforcement' using the pond ever materializes.... Good luck everybody. Quote:

Julie and all;
There exists a new module within the toolbar above entitled 'Invite Your Friends' that may be employed for just such this purpose, as often times the furthest these types of problems go is right here & not where those tasked to possibly do something about it can.... Freely email from within that link any thread from here or a concern you might have..... Cheers - |

The examples that these threads noted are clear indications of the abuse to White Pond and its residents. Unmanaged and unregulated situations as highlighted here demonstrate how much more this area will be negatively impacted if the BFRT project is implemented without full consideration of the increased "visitor" flow and its associated risks to the fragile ecological system and the White Pond residents/tax payers.
The summer is only beginning -- what will the 4th of July will bring? Does it take some major incident, such as a fire or injury to either "visitor" or homeowner, to make people here realize the problem at hand? |

Great post Susan. I saw much of the same and it not only angered me, but saddened me as well. It angered me because the adults I saw were just as bad as the teenagers. The law applies to all and they certainly set a bad example. I swam by there yesterday and was appalled at all the trash and I actually swam into a floating beer can. I am saddened because of the reckless use of this wonderful resource and unless something is done by the town to enforce the rules, will become another Walden Pond once the BFRT is complete.
